Lendum Soltorv is under construction and is a collaboration between Claus Ørntoft and Lendum Art and Cultural Association. Soltorvet is an artistic solution to a new gathering point in Lendum – a center in the town where life and well-being can unfold.

With art, the former parking lot is reimagined with a sundial and sculptural elements that can be enjoyed independently but also used practically as benches and a meeting place – a breeding ground for a new culture. In addition, the sundial's semicircle disrupts the monotonous line of the road, reducing the speed of the cars. Thus, Soltorvet will give the town a calmer pulse.

Lendum Art and Cultural Association hopes for a lasting social and economic impact of Soltorvet, as annually recurring events can be organized, such as harvest markets, Christmas markets, antique markets, crafts markets, concerts, etc., as well as initiatives from local community life. Over time, this will create traditions and improve community life.

Furthermore, the association hopes that Soltorvet, as an artistic attraction and social activity generator, will help put Lendum on the map, ensuring that the town continues to be a village where settlement occurs, thereby ensuring the continued existence of the local grocery store, other businesses, Lendum School, the nursery, and kindergarten, community life, the assembly hall, the sports hall, etc.

DIGITAL RENDERING OF THE UPCOMING SOLTORV AND INITIAL SKETCHES

Whether approaching from Tårsvej, Skærumvej, or Søndergade, the square is visible from a long distance. The square is constructed with tiles and granite, making it clear to the incoming traffic that it is entering a square where traffic will be secondary. In the center of the semicircle, the sundial itself will stand with a granite dial and an upright "hand" whose shadow indicates the time.

ABOUT THE ARTISTIC IDEA BEHIND SOLTORVET

"A square will bring the city together and give it a new face. It will create a large space in the middle of the city. By including the church parking lot in the new square, you can draw a line from north to south. The idea of a sundial seems obvious and creates a unifying principle.
The characterless parking lot will change character and become an active part of the Sun Square's structure, all in a tight symmetry. The square and the roadway will be paved with granite, so that driving traffic is aware that they are entering a square.
The inner semicircle of the sundial is the seating area, raised to the north. This creates an edge against the traffic, so that staying in the square feels sheltered and safe. The square must have a clear rigor, in contrast to the organic dynamics of the sculptures."
